Egypt welcomes US decision to remove Syria from state sponsors of terrorism list: supports efforts to achieve stability

Egypt welcomed on Tuesday the United States’ decision to remove Syria from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, describing it as a step that would support efforts to achieve stability in Syria, economic recovery, and reconstruction. In a statement, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Cairo’s hope to continue supporting the Syrian people during this phase, in a manner that would enable the Syrian state to restore its stability, strengthen its national institutions, and preserve its unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. It affirmed that respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity constitutes a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable stability in the country and the region, emphasizing the necessity of continuing the fight against terrorism and extremism in all its forms and manifestations, and dealing decisively with the issue of foreign terrorist fighters. It underscored the importance of continuing to launch a comprehensive political process involving all components of the Syrian people, in a manner that safeguards the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Syrian state and fulfills the Syrian people’s aspirations for security, stability, and development.
