Criminal Investigation Department closes case of African woman’s death by beating, with arrest of her accused husband
Abdullah Qanais: Officers of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigations, represented by the Investigation and Inquiry Department of Al-Jahra Governorate, have closed the file of the case involving the murder of an African migrant worker after she was beaten, by arresting her husband, who shares her nationality, after he had gone into hiding following the incident.
A security source told Al-Anbaa that the suspect confessed during initial investigations that he assaulted his wife with blows after an argument erupted between them, clarifying that he did not expect the injuries she sustained to lead to her death. He claimed that he left the home believing she would recover and that he would return later to reconcile with her.
The source explained that Interior Ministry operations received a report late the day before yesterday about a fight between a married couple, during which the wife called for help. An Al-Jahra security patrol immediately proceeded to the location of the report, where security officers found the woman inside the apartment with blood covering her face.
He added that when paramedics arrived and examined the woman, it was determined that she had passed away. Neighbors stated that her husband had left the apartment after assaulting her. The source noted that criminal evidence officers and a forensic doctor went to the scene, and the examination revealed that the victim had been subjected to violent blows with the hand, resulting in fractures to the facial bones and skull, as well as internal bleeding that caused her death.
He continued that investigation officers intensified their inquiries to locate the husband after it was found that his phone was switched off. His name was circulated on the list of individuals banned from traveling, until information emerged that he was staying at the home of a friend in Al-Jahra Governorate. Officers then proceeded to the location and arrested him.
When confronted with the death of his wife, he admitted that he assaulted her with several punches during the argument that had erupted between them, but he insisted that he did not expect those blows to cause her death.
The source pointed out that the final legal characterization of the incident has not yet been determined, and the Public Prosecution will decide whether the case will be classified as intentional murder or assault resulting in death.
