Blue Team Meets Oman in Asian Qualifiers

The Kuwaiti national basketball team will kick off its campaign in the first window of Group 1 of the preliminary rounds for the West Asia qualifiers for the 2029 Asian Cup at 7:00 PM today, facing their Omani counterparts at a venue in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The “Blue Team” competes in Group 1, which includes Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE (host of the first window), Oman, and Nepal. The preliminary qualifiers run until the 31st of this month.

The Group 1 matches are played in a single-round-robin format, with the five teams competing for three berths to advance to the second round of the preliminary qualifiers.

The Kuwaiti national team has prepared well for the Asian competition, beginning local training in July last year, followed by a training camp in Cairo, Egypt, where they played several friendly matches. On their part, the Omani national team prepared in Dubai for two weeks, playing four friendly matches there.

Greek coach Vasilis Pratsiakos, head coach of the Kuwaiti national team, aims to achieve the best possible result in his first assignment with the “Blue Team,” relying on a number of experienced players, including Hamad Adnan, Abdulaziz Al-Humaidi, Ahmed Al-Balushi, Abdulrahman Al-Jamrah, Ali Al-Hadhoud, as well as Imran Jawhar and Abdulmohsen Al-Mousawi.

The “Blue Team” will face the UAE national team tomorrow evening, followed by a third match against the Nepali national team at 4:00 PM on Friday, before concluding their campaign with a match against the Bahraini national team on the 31st.
