Kuwait Awards $250 Million in Contracts in July

Kuwait officials: The magazine MEED revealed that Kuwait awarded contracts worth a total of $250 million in July 2026, while the total value of contracts awarded in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region reached approximately $191.8 billion during the first seven months of the current year.

The largest contract awarded in Kuwait in July accounted for the largest share of the total value of local contracts, amounting to $232 million, which represents 92.8% of Kuwait’s total awards during the month, while the value of the other contract was approximately $18 million.

According to MEED, the largest contract was awarded to China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) to construct the permanent headquarters of the Direct Investment Promotion Authority. The project includes the construction of a 275-meter-high, 55-story office tower in the Shuwaikh area of Kuwait City, with completion expected by 2028.

Kuwait’s awards are part of regional activity that experienced fluctuations in July. The value of contracts signed in the MENA region reached approximately $20.4 billion, down from $26.2 billion in June, representing a decline of $5.8 billion, or 22.1% on a monthly basis.

MEED noted that contract award activity in the region was affected by developments in the regional conflict. The market recorded approximately $40 billion in contracts during January and February before the conflict began, then the value of awards dropped to around $26 billion in March, falling to levels close to $18 billion in April and May, before rising again to $26.2 billion in June and declining once more in July.

The transport and gas sectors led in terms of the value of deals concluded in July. Transport contracts amounted to approximately $6.7 billion, while the gas sector recorded contracts worth $6.5 billion, bringing the total value of the two sectors to $13.2 billion, representing approximately 64.7% of the total value of regional contracts during the month.

The United Arab Emirates led the region in terms of the value of contracts awarded in July, with a total of $10.9 billion, accounting for approximately 53.4% of the region’s total awards during the month. This was driven by three major deals totaling $6.2 billion as part of the Al Shaheen gas reservoir and surface pressure enhancement project in Abu Dhabi.

The reservoir is located within the offshore hydrocarbon concession of Al Shaheen and Nasr, managed by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) as the largest shareholder, alongside Italy’s Eni, France’s TotalEnergies, and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).

According to the report, the first offshore package, which includes the manufacturing of a gas compression system weighing 30,000 tons, was awarded to a consortium comprising India’s Larsen & Toubro Energy and Hydrocarbons and Saudi/Emirati company Lamor. The second offshore package, which involves the manufacturing of another gas compression system weighing 30,000 tons, went to US-based McDermott.

The onshore package, related to engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) for gas injection and processing systems on Das Island, was awarded to China Petroleum Engineering and Construction Corporation (CPECC).

Egypt came in second after the UAE, with contracts worth $6.6 billion in July.
