Trump: 'Failed' Iran is suffering from a massive humanitarian crisis and it must be ended 'immediately'

U.S. President Donald Trump said there is a massive humanitarian crisis in Iran that must be ended “immediately,” as long lines of cars and motorcycles formed at gas stations in the capital, Tehran, one day after Washington announced unprecedented economic sanctions.

Trump posted a brief message on his social media platform, Truth Social, yesterday, stating, “Failed Iran is not paying the salaries of large segments of its military, while at the same time killing protesters – even those not participating in the protests – at unprecedented levels.” He added, “It is a massive humanitarian crisis, and it must be ended immediately.”

In a subsequent post, Trump said the “U.S. Navy informed him that all mines in international waters in the Strait of Hormuz have been removed or detonated.” He added, “Iran has been notified that any ship or boat that lays new mines will be destroyed immediately and systematically.”

The U.S. president affirmed the readiness of his country’s forces, saying, “Through air power, we are watching every inch of the strait, just as we watch Mount Faq and the other three nuclear sites previously destroyed.”

In a related development, the United States has offered a $10 million reward for information leading to the identification of five senior commanders of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), operating under the “Reward for Justice” program, announced via its official X account that it is offering a $10 million reward for information leading to the identification of: IRGC Commander Ahmad Vahidi; Chief of Staff Ali Abdollahi; Intelligence Chief Majed Khajavi; and senior commanders responsible for the IRGC’s drone programs and cyber warfare operations.

In parallel diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Dr. Majed Al-Ansari stated that Doha has continued its efforts over the past period with both the United States and Iran to bring them back to the negotiating table.

During his weekly press briefing in Doha yesterday, Al-Ansari affirmed that “all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries support reaching a peaceful resolution to the crisis between the United States and Iran,” adding that “there is full coordination among GCC states to address various escalation scenarios.”

He continued: “We have stressed from day one that any escalation in the region will have repercussions across the entire region and the world,” emphasizing that “the situation in the Strait of Hormuz must return to its pre-crisis state, and we reiterate the necessity of freedom of navigation in the strait.”

Al-Ansari described the US sanctions on Iran as “unilateral,” reiterating that “the priority is to conclude an agreement among all parties. We support mediation efforts to resolve the crisis,” stressing that “Qatar does not support any side against another.”

This statement came as Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi concluded their visit to Iran.

In a statement, the Pakistani Army’s Public Relations Department said that General Asim Munir held official meetings during the visit with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Maj. Gen. Mohsen Rezaei, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.

The statement added that “the talks were comprehensive, focusing on necessary measures to prevent further escalation of tensions, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and accelerate the end of the conflict.” It noted that Iranian officials expressed “their appreciation for the constructive role played by Islamabad and its sincere efforts to facilitate dialogue, de-escalate tensions, and reach a peaceful resolution to the conflict.”

In this context, Al Arabiya/Al Hadath channel quoted a high-level source, who wished to remain anonymous, as saying that the messages conveyed by the Pakistani Army Chief to Iran included a Washington offer to lift the naval blockade imposed on Tehran and remove sanctions in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and halting attacks by Tehran’s proxies in the region.

The same source clarified that Iranian Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei informed the Pakistani Army Chief that Tehran “will continue its internal consultations and will provide its response to these messages shortly.”
