The Kuwait National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters hosted a specialized artistic workshop on “block printing” at Bayt Al Sadu, presented by trainers Masa Al-Anzi and Hiba Diab. The session blended artistic creativity with the spirit of Kuwaiti heritage as part of the activities of the “Summer Cultural Festival 18.”
The workshop covered the fundamentals of block printing on fabrics and paper, introducing participants to the tools and techniques used, as well as methods for employing ready-made or handcrafted blocks to transfer designs and motifs, transforming them into unique artworks bearing the personal touch of each participant.
In this regard, trainer Masa Al-Anzi told KUNA that the workshop offers a practical artistic experience, enabling participants to decorate fabrics using blocks and colors and to turn ideas and patterns into one-of-a-kind handmade pieces, without requiring prior expertise.
Al-Anzi noted that the choice of block printing technique stems from its simplicity, enjoyment, and wide creative potential, as well as its connection to textile arts and ornamentation. She emphasized that the workshop provides participants with space to experiment and discover their own artistic styles.
She added that holding the workshop at Bayt Al Sadu adds a distinctive heritage dimension to the experience, given the institution’s pioneering role in preserving, documenting, and teaching Kuwaiti textile heritage and introducing it to new generations. Al-Anzi stressed the importance of leveraging such events to strengthen the presence of handicrafts and traditional arts through contemporary approaches.
Al-Anzi highlighted the importance of continuing to organize artistic workshops that link heritage with contemporary art, contributing to enhancing public appreciation for handicrafts and local creativity. She noted that presenting these workshops in simplified and engaging formats opens the door for diverse groups to discover their artistic talents.
