The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development announced that the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences has contributed US$15 million to the Kuwait Emergency Response Fund, marking the largest single donation the fund has received since its launch. This significant contribution bolsters the fund’s resources and its capacity to finance priority interventions and projects.
In a press statement, the Kuwait Fund noted that this contribution represents a key milestone in the journey of the Kuwait Emergency Response Fund, not only due to its financial value as the highest to date, but also because of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences’ esteemed national standing and its extended institutional role in supporting initiatives and programs aligned with Kuwait’s priorities.
The fund added that the US$15 million contribution enhances its financing capacity during a phase that is gradually shifting from resource mobilization to assessing needs and reviewing projects submitted by government entities, prioritizing them accordingly. This will enable the allocation of funding toward the most urgent and impactful interventions, as well as support reform and rehabilitation efforts for damaged infrastructure and services.
The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences is a private, non-profit institution established in December 1976. It collaborates with local and international partners to fund and implement research, training, and development programs that address Kuwait’s national priorities in the fields of science, technology, and innovation, in addition to managing and supporting several specialized scientific centers. Its vision is to advance science, technology, and innovation for a prosperous, resilient, and sustainable future.
It is worth noting that the Kuwait Emergency Response Fund was launched on July 5 last year, initiated by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and approved by the Council of Ministers. The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development will manage and oversee the fund’s operations, aiming to provide a flexible financing mechanism to support priority interventions and projects, and to enhance the country’s capacity to respond efficiently and effectively to emergency needs and circumstances.
