U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, emphasized the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement on Monday, U.S. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said that Secretary Rubio held telephone talks with his German counterpart, covering major international issues and matters of shared interest. Pigott noted that Secretary Rubio stressed the importance of reaching a permanent and sustainable peace between Russia and Ukraine, and both sides underscored their shared U.S.-German commitment to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He added that the two sides also emphasized during the call the need to ensure that Iran does not develop or acquire nuclear weapons.
