Bibi Al-Yousef: Expanding the provision of housing options for beneficiaries in line with their needs

Sheikha Bibi Al-Yousef, Chairperson of the Women’s Housing Affairs Committee at the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, announced the distribution of approximately 2,000 housing units to eligible Kuwaiti women over the past ten months, emphasizing that the committee prioritizes the residential and family stability of Kuwaiti women.

This statement was made during a television interview with Al-Yousef on the program “Good Morning Kuwait,” broadcast on Kuwait Television, where she outlined the committee’s key achievements over two years of work, alongside plans to develop the women’s housing system and expedite the processing of applications.

She noted that the committee held 184 meetings during the recent period, dedicated to reviewing applications, examining cases, and removing obstacles faced by applicants, with priority given to humanitarian cases and the most vulnerable families.

Regarding rented housing, Al-Yousef clarified that current distribution areas are concentrated in several locations, including Sabah Al-Salem, Salwa, and Taima. She added that the committee is working to expand housing options for eligible women in line with their needs. She also revealed new future projects, including the Al-Nawir complex in the Sabah Al-Ahmed City residential area, whose management will be tendered to private sector companies, as well as the Affordable Housing Project, expected to comprise around 9,000 units and planned for the Al-Salmi Road area, representing a significant addition to future housing options.

Al-Yousef stressed the committee’s firm commitment to not accepting or distributing any residential buildings until the completion of infrastructure and essential services, including schools, clinics, and cooperative societies. She emphasized that housing provision is incomplete without ensuring the necessary services to guarantee family stability and a dignified life for beneficiaries.

In this context, Al-Yousef urged all women on waiting lists to update their housing application data through the “Sahl” application before the deadline of October 17, warning that failure to update the data will result in the cancellation of their housing applications.

She pointed out that the committee pays special attention to priority groups, including divorced women, widows, women married to non-Kuwaiti nationals, and women with disabilities. She explained that periodic lotteries are conducted to ensure fairness and prioritize eligible cases, thereby preserving the dignity of Kuwaiti women and their families’ stability.

She affirmed that the committee’s efforts to develop housing work mechanisms and process applications continue, aiming to meet the needs of citizens and enhance the role of the Public Authority for Housing Welfare in providing suitable housing for eligible groups.
