Research Institute Wins Gold and Grand Prizes at International Inventions Exhibition in China

The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) announced that researcher Dr. Mishaari Khajja won the Gold Medal and the International Jury Prize (Grand Prize) at the 12th International Exhibition of Inventions, held in Guangzhou, China, from August 21 to 23.

In a press statement, the institute said this achievement resulted from Dr. Khajja’s participation, representing the institute’s Water Research Center, with a patent titled “Wetland System for Treating Wastewater Generated from Reverse Osmosis Sewage Treatment.”

The institute added that the patent, co-developed by Dr. Mohammed Al-Muntaser Ahmed, was funded by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences and granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office in August 2025.

It explained that the innovation relies on using a wetland system to treat wastewater produced by reverse osmosis sewage treatment, thereby improving water quality and enabling its reuse in various applications, while providing sustainable environmental and economic solutions.

The institute highlighted that the innovation’s significance lies in its ability to offer a sustainable solution for treating wastewater, enhancing its quality, and facilitating reuse, which strengthens water resource management efficiency and supports the shift toward sustainable environmental solutions.

The institute emphasized that this achievement reflects its efforts to support researchers, develop applied research, and translate scientific research outputs into innovations and solutions that help address environmental and water challenges, while enhancing Kuwait’s presence at international scientific and innovation forums.
