Exhausted owl finds lifeline on a military boat after drifting 130 km over the sea

The participation of a British Army team in a sailing race around Britain and Ireland turned into an unexpected rescue operation, as reported by Britain’s The Telegraph, after a exhausted barn owl was spotted some 130 kilometers from the coast.

The owl had repeatedly attempted to land on one of the yachts during the race before finally collapsing on its deck from exhaustion. Crew members quickly secured the bird and provided first aid, initially naming it “Little Reggie” before discovering it was female and changing the name to “Little Regina.”

The soldiers did not merely keep the owl aboard; they coordinated with wildlife organizations, including the Barn Owl Trust and local rescue teams, to ensure its safe transfer to a specialized center as soon as a suitable opportunity arose.

The story ended on a reassuring note: the owl survived and is now on the road to recovery after a mysterious sea journey that could have ended very differently.
