Today: Deadline for “Reduction of Absenteeism” Applications at the Coordination of Universities and Institutes

Cairo - Ahmed Sabri: The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced that Monday, August 24, 2026, is the final deadline for submitting requests for reduction of geographical distance (aghrab) by high school graduates who have been allocated places in the first and second phases of the university and institute admissions coordination for the 2026-2027 academic year, through the electronic coordination website.

The ministry emphasized that the reduction of geographical distance process is carried out in accordance with the rules and regulations approved by the Supreme Council of Universities, within a maximum limit of 10%, while adhering to the rules of geographical distribution, the established minimum thresholds, and the capacity of colleges and institutes. It clarified that each student is allowed to submit a request for reduction of geographical distance only once, and that selection among applicants is based on the student’s total score in the high school certificate, taking into account the allocated percentage and the capacity of the college to which the transfer is sought.

Students allocated to private higher institutes or intermediate institutes, as well as those allocated to any college, are also permitted to submit a request for reduction of geographical distance to another institute, whether to a comparable institute in the same major, to a non-comparable institute, or from a college to an institute, provided that the minimum threshold announced for the target institute is met, and considering its capacity and compliance with the specified admission percentage.

The ministry further noted that requests for reduction of geographical distance are processed in light of the established rules and regulations, within the 10% limit approved by the Supreme Council of Universities, and in accordance with the capacity of the college or institute to which the transfer is sought.
