FAO: Egypt Leads Arab Countries in Wheat Production in 2026

Cairo – Ahmed Sabri The Media Center of the Council of Ministers published infographics on its social media platforms, outlining the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) estimates for wheat production in Arab countries in 2026, which indicate that Egypt leads the Arab list in terms of production volume.

These estimates coincide with the conclusion of the domestic wheat procurement season and reflect the continuous growth in local wheat production, driven by an increase in cultivated areas and higher productivity, alongside efforts to expand the development and dissemination of high-yield varieties resilient to climatic conditions. These measures contribute to enhancing local production and supporting a reduction in reliance on imports.

The infographics indicated that FAO estimates project Egypt’s wheat production in 2026 to reach 10.2 million tons, thereby leading Arab countries, followed by Morocco and Iraq, each producing 5 million tons, then Algeria with approximately 3.5 million tons, Tunisia with about 1.4 million tons, and Saudi Arabia with 1.1 million tons. According to FAO estimates, wheat production in Egypt in 2026 is expected to increase by approximately 7% compared to the average production level, primarily driven by the expansion of cultivated areas.
