Energy: Supervision and investigation operations continue at several sites and oil fields in Deir ez-Zor
Energy Minister Muhammad al-Bashir confirmed that supervision and investigation operations are continuing at several sites and fields of the Syrian Petroleum Company in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, noting that anyone found responsible will be referred to the competent authorities, following the discovery of serious violations and transgressions affecting oil production, transportation, and metering mechanisms.
The Syrian official news agency, SANA, reported that the Central Supervision and Inspection Authority stated on its Telegram page two days ago that supervisory operations had uncovered serious violations and transgressions impacting oil production, transportation, and metering, as well as maintenance and contracting works, alongside loopholes in supervisory procedures. These issues have resulted in damage to public funds estimated at more than $8 million, according to preliminary figures, stemming from contracting, maintenance works, and mismanagement, particularly in Deir ez-Zor fields.
Minister al-Bashir stated in a post on his official X account yesterday: “In coordination with the Central Supervision and Inspection Authority, we are continuing supervision and investigation operations at several sites and fields of the Syrian Petroleum Company in Deir ez-Zor Governorate. We have directed the continuation of these operations until completion, with results being revealed sequentially with full transparency and responsibility.”
The minister added: “There are other files and cases under follow-up. We will present all required data and documents to the supervisory and judicial authorities. Anyone whose responsibility is established will be referred to the competent authorities and held accountable according to the law, regardless of their position or status.”
He emphasized that protecting public funds and national resources is a trust that allows for no leniency, and safeguarding the rights of Syrians is a responsibility that admits no compromise. There is no cover for the corrupt, no immunity for transgressors, and no one is above accountability.
