Kuwait’s stock exchange recorded capital gains of approximately 446.2 million dinars during yesterday’s (Sunday) trading session, driven by a wave of buying that supported the market’s main indices, alongside a clear rise in liquidity levels that surpassed the 105 million dinar mark.
Trading data showed that the market capitalization of listed companies rose to approximately 53.2 billion dinars by the end of Sunday’s session, up from 52.76 billion dinars at the close of last Thursday’s trading, marking strong capital gains for the exchange in a single session. The General Market Index rose by 0.85%, equivalent to 74.63 points, closing at 8,892.89 points, supported by selective buying focused on several leading stocks, amid improved investor appetite for shares with strong fundamentals.
The session saw 132 stocks traded, with 79 of them rising, representing about 60% of the total traded stocks, while prices for 39 stocks fell, and 14 stocks remained unchanged, reflecting a broadening of the upward trend across multiple sectors and shares.
Traded liquidity increased to 105.03 million dinars, distributed across approximately 389.6 million shares through 23,209 transactions, reflecting continued notable market activity and higher trading volumes compared to previous sessions.
The First Market Index rose by 0.75%, equivalent to 68.85 points, reaching 9,308.57 points. Traded liquidity in the First Market amounted to approximately 69.92 million dinars, executed through 198.97 million shares across about 10,555 transactions. The First Market saw 39 stocks traded, with 27 rising, 9 falling, and 3 remaining unchanged, confirming the continuation of selective buying in leading stocks, which were among the key drivers of the market on Sunday.
In contrast, clear momentum was evident in the Main Market, which outperformed the First Market, with its index rising by 1.33%, equivalent to 119.98 points, to reach 9,108.4 points. Trading value in the Main Market amounted to approximately 39.112 million dinars, distributed across 190.63 million shares through 12,654 transactions, a level of activity reflecting increased interest in small and mid-cap stocks, particularly those experiencing price movements and active trading.
Market performance during the session indicates the continued existence of two liquidity trends: the first selectively targeting leading stocks in the First Market, and the second focusing on small and mid-cap stocks in the Main Market, as some investors seek to capitalize on arbitrage opportunities and short-term price movements.
The simultaneous rise in the General and Main Market indices, coupled with growing liquidity, reflects positive momentum in trading, especially with improving investor sentiment and a gradual return of risk appetite. However, the sustainability of this performance remains contingent on the market’s ability to maintain current liquidity levels and continued buying in leading stocks.
Sunday’s session figures show that activity was no longer confined to a specific segment of stocks but extended to a larger number of companies, bolstering capital gains and pushing the exchange’s market value to new levels in recent periods.
