New factory in Shuwaikh Industrial Area serves plastics and packaging industries

Plans for the implementation of the “Fourth Olefins” project in Kuwait are advancing, following confirmation of the availability of the necessary ethane feedstock and the completion of market and product studies, paving the way for its execution in the Shuwaikh Industrial Area.

According to a report by the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, the project’s feasibility has been confirmed in collaboration with Equinor through a joint working team. Final consultations are currently underway with relevant stakeholders to approve the study’s findings and authorize the move forward with implementation, alongside an evaluation of the project site in preparation for clearing and site preparation activities.

Olefins are fundamental petrochemical materials that serve the plastics and packaging industries.

Ethylene is used in the production of polyethylene, which is employed in packaging, containers, pipes, and wire and cable insulation. Propylene, on the other hand, is primarily used in the production of polypropylene, which finds applications across multiple industries.

The completed steps reflect progress in the project’s preparatory work, leading to site readiness and the commencement of implementation once all necessary approvals are secured.
