Robot Breaks Human World Record in 100-Meter Race

China’s state broadcaster reported that the humanoid robot “Lightning,” developed by Chinese smartphone manufacturer Unitree, has broken the human world record in the 100-meter sprint. The broadcaster noted that the “Lightning” robot completed the 100-meter distance in 9.32 seconds, thereby setting a new human world record. During a preparatory test for the second edition of the Humanoid Robot Games, which kicked off yesterday, the robot reached a peak speed of 14.5 meters per second. This performance surpassed the men’s 100-meter world record of 9.58 seconds, held by Usain Bolt.
