International Center for Combating Media Disinformation: Developing an advanced technological system to monitor and analyze digital content
The International Center for Combating Media Misinformation (ICCMD) announced the development of an advanced technological system for monitoring and analyzing digital content, alongside the launch of the International Charter for Media Integrity and Combating Misinformation, among the key strategic projects approved by the Center’s Board of Directors at its inaugural meeting.
The meeting was chaired by Isa Al-Shaayji, Chairman of the Board, and attended by Khaled Bakdash, President of the International Organization for Press and Media (Netherlands); Rabea Hussein Maki Al-Juma’a, Vice Chairman for Programs and Development; Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Al-Araimi, Vice Chairman for International Affairs; Dr. Yunus Magid, Vice Chairman for North Africa Affairs; Tariq Al-Mu’ayyad, Vice Chairman for the Arab Mashreq Affairs; Fadhila Al-Muayyad, Vice Chairman for Gulf Cooperation Council Countries Affairs; Fawaz Ahmed Sulaiman, Vice Chairman for Institutional Communication and Media Affairs; and Sultan Al-Hosni, Secretary General of the Center.
The system aims to build advanced technical and professional capabilities in monitoring and analyzing digital media content, including keyword, topic, and media narrative analysis, as well as studying content dissemination patterns, trends, and indicators. It supports data analysis processes by leveraging artificial intelligence technologies and professional expertise.
Concurrently with the technical track, the Center is launching the International Charter for Media Integrity and Combating Misinformation, with the goal of building an international network that brings together media institutions, professional bodies, and academic and research organizations around shared principles and standards for media integrity, verification, and professional responsibility.
Isa Al-Shaayji, Chairman of the Board, stated: “We aspire to build an effective international center that combines media and technical expertise with institutional work, and offers initiatives capable of keeping pace with the rapid transformations in the media environment.” He noted that launching the International Charter represents an important step toward building cross-border professional collaboration that unites institutions and professionals around shared principles of media integrity and responsibility.
Al-Shaayji added that combating media misinformation requires integrating expertise and forming partnerships among media, professional, and academic institutions, alongside investing in modern technologies and tools capable of monitoring, analyzing, and professionally addressing content and misinformation patterns.
For his part, Sultan Al-Hosni, Secretary General of the Center, presented an overview of the Center’s operational and technical vision, highlighting a comprehensive digital system under development to support monitoring, analysis, and verification of media and digital content.
The system’s capabilities include real-time monitoring, analysis of keywords, topics, and media narratives, study of content dissemination patterns, trends, and indicators, support for verification and data analysis processes, and leveraging artificial intelligence technologies to enhance the efficiency of monitoring and analysis.
With the Board of Directors approving the main directions and projects for the upcoming phase at its first meeting, the Center is moving into a new stage of institutional work, relying on the expertise and regional and international networks of its members to build strategic partnerships and initiatives that strengthen its presence and impact in combating media misinformation at both regional and international levels.
