US Vice President JD Vance said that intensifying economic pressure on Iran is the best way to defeat it after neutralizing its military capabilities. In remarks to the press, Vance stated that “severe economic pressure on Iran will alter its calculations toward reaching an agreement, forcing it to choose between economic strangulation or establishing normal relations with the international community.”
On the other hand, the US Vice President said that Washington has secured the transit of large volumes of oil and broken Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz. He added that the United States would work to ensure the passage of additional oil shipments to guarantee that Iran does not use the strait as a weapon.
For his part, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CNBC that economic pressure “will limit Iran’s ability to move its proxies and pay its army’s salaries.” Bessent emphasized that Washington would take punitive measures against countries that continue to conduct business with Tehran.
