Civil Defense: Absence of supervision over children for moments in swimming pools may end in tragedy

The General Fire Force has emphasized the importance of taking necessary preventive measures to protect children from the risks of drowning, stressing that supervising children and avoiding distractions while they are in or near swimming pools or water sources constitutes the first line of defense in safeguarding them.

In an awareness brochure titled “Prevention is Protection: Your Safety Matters, and It Is Our Duty to Protect You,” the Force explained that protecting children from drowning requires not leaving them unattended near water, as well as ensuring they are taught basic swimming skills and continuously supervised while swimming.

The Force also urged that children wear life jackets, and that weather conditions be checked and monitored before engaging in marine activities or heading to swimming areas.

Meanwhile, a source from the Fire Force stressed the importance of family members being familiar with first-aid skills specific to drowning incidents, reiterating the necessity of not diverting attention from children while they are swimming, as even a few moments of unsupervised time can lead to tragic outcomes.
