GCC and China: Support efforts to enhance security and stability in the region

Senior officials from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the People’s Republic of China discussed Iranian attacks on GCC member states and their repercussions on the security and stability of the region. The GCC Secretariat General stated in a press release that this took place during a meeting held between senior officials from both sides, with the participation of senior officials from the foreign ministries of the GCC states, a delegation from the People’s Republic of China, and the GCC Secretariat General, at the Secretariat’s headquarters in Riyadh.
Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Owaisheq, Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Negotiations at the GCC Secretariat General, said the meeting was held within the framework of the strategic partnership between the GCC and the People’s Republic of China, and as a continuation of the outcomes of the first GCC-China Summit held in Riyadh in 2022. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the strategic partnership between the two sides to serve their common interests.
He added that the meeting discussed areas of joint cooperation and ways to develop them within the framework of the Joint Action Plan for the period (2023–2027), and exchanged views on the future of GCC-China relations.
He clarified that the meeting also addressed several regional political and security issues, foremost among them the security of maritime passages and navigation, energy security, and the fight against terrorism.
Both sides affirmed the importance of continuing dialogue and coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest, and supporting efforts aimed at enhancing security and stability in the region.
