Dortmund to challenge Bayern tomorrow for the German Super Cup

The German season kicks off tomorrow with a match between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund for the German Super Cup, with the game scheduled for 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. The tournament is officially named the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup, after being renamed in honor of the late German legend. The season opener sees Bayern, champions of the double, face Dortmund, runners-up in the Bundesliga, competing for the first titles of the season, with the match broadcast to approximately 200 countries worldwide.

This marks the tenth Super Cup meeting between the giants of “Der Klassiker,” with Bayern holding a slight edge after winning five of the previous encounters. It is also the first meeting between the two sides since 2021.

As the host club, Dortmund begins the match at Signal Iduna Park, historically known as Westfalenstadion (Germany’s largest stadium) since its opening in 1974. They enter as the underdogs following Bayern’s 14th league and cup double, but the advantage of playing in front of the “Yellow Wall” could change everything.

Meanwhile, sources at Bayern Munich have confirmed that the career of German national team player Jamal Musiala is not in jeopardy, following his diagnosis of absence seizures. Musiala (23) collapsed on the pitch during Bayern’s 4-2 friendly win over Heidenheim last Tuesday, after experiencing a similar incident during their 3-1 victory over Leipzig last Saturday.

Musiala took to social media to state that he suffers from “short, temporary, but treatable absence seizures caused by a neurological disorder,” adding that he remains “optimistic.”

Bayern sources now say there are no indications that the attacking midfielder is unable to continue his career at the highest level. The sources clarified that Musiala’s participation in the two matches was completely free of any issues, and that the matter had been extensively discussed with doctors.

Doctors state that absence seizures are brief, sudden episodes of loss of consciousness that typically do not cause long-term problems. They are more common in children and can be classified as a form of epilepsy.
