Axios, citing US officials: Our forces established a shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz to transport millions of barrels of oil daily
The US news website Axios quoted US officials as saying that American forces have established an entry and exit corridor through the Strait of Hormuz to transport millions of barrels of oil daily, and that US fighter jets are patrolling the shipping lane to ensure the safe passage of oil tankers. US officials clarified that 15 to 20 oil tankers pass daily through the Strait of Hormuz via a southern corridor, with approximately 10 million barrels of oil transported daily to the energy market through the strait, equivalent to half the volume transported before the war. They added that the US military has controlled the southern passage in Hormuz for two months, and that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps poses only a minor nuisance, noting that Iran’s ability to monitor navigation in the southern part of the strait has declined. They also revealed that US forces shot down eight Iranian drones and two cruise missiles on Monday night.
For his part, US President Donald Trump told Axios that huge quantities of oil are flowing through the Strait of Hormuz, adding that the strait will not be as important as it was in the past. While affirming that the naval blockade on Iran is effective, Trump continued: “We are not negotiating with Tehran at the present time; negotiating with them is a waste of time.” He added: “The Iranians still have some capacity to fight, but overall, all that remains of them is an empty shell.”
