Saudi Arabia and Qatar: Necessity of Continuing Joint Efforts to Ensure Security of Maritime Chokepoints in the Region

Saudi Foreign Minister, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan, and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, on Wednesday, stressed the necessity of continuing joint efforts to ensure the security, safety, and freedom of navigation in the region’s vital sea lanes.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that this came during Prince Faisal bin Farhan’s reception of Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman at the ministry’s headquarters in Riyadh to discuss recent developments in the region and diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, contain conflicts, and preserve regional security and stability.
The statement added that both sides reaffirmed their support for Qatari and Pakistani mediation efforts and the role they play in advancing the settlement of differences through diplomatic means.
It noted that the two sides discussed during the meeting the importance of continuing coordination and consultation, and harmonizing positions regarding current developments, in order to enhance the effectiveness of efforts aimed at consolidating security and stability in the region.
The meeting also addressed the fraternal relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, areas of joint cooperation, and ways to strengthen and develop them in a manner that fulfills the aspirations of the leaderships and peoples of the two countries.
