Fernandinho forces a draw on Lyon in the Champions League warm-up

Turkish club Fenerbahce imposed a hard-fought 1-1 draw on their French guests Olympique Lyonnais on the day before yesterday, in the qualifying play-off round for the league phase of the UEFA Champions League. Lyon took the lead five minutes before halftime through their Belgian striker Louis Oppenda, who joined the squad during the current summer transfer window. Fenerbahce managed to equalize seven minutes into the second half, when Englishman Mason Greenwood, who joined this summer from Olympique Marseille, scored the leveling goal.

In another match, Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb drew 2-2 at home against Norwegian club Viking, despite the home side taking an early two-goal lead through Dion Drena Beljo and Mateo Lysicka in the sixth and tenth minutes. Viking fought back before halftime, with Peter Christiansen and Zlatko Tripic scoring the equalizers in the 26th and 39th minutes.

In a third fixture, Bulgarian team Levski Sofia and their Greek visitors AEK Athens played out a goalless draw.

The return legs will be played next week to determine which teams will advance to the league phase, which comprises 36 teams.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah will make his European debut wearing the shirt of Trabzonspor, as the Turkish club hosts Hungarian side Ferencváros today in the first leg of the Europa League qualifying play-off. The match will take place at the Babr Park, Trabzonspor’s home ground, marking the Turkish club’s first European appearance since Salah’s arrival. Salah made his official debut in a 1-1 draw against Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super Lig.

In other fixtures, Czech side Viktoria Plzen will host Serbian club Red Star Belgrade, while Portuguese side Benfica will visit Danish team Aarhus, and Kazakh club Kairat Almaty will face Belgian hosts Anderlecht.
