Trump: We have full control of the Strait of Hormuz, and large quantities of oil are currently flowing through it

US President Donald Trump reiterated that “we cannot allow Iran to possess a nuclear weapon.” Trump said in press remarks during a tour of a new helicopter pad under construction at the White House: “We have full control of the Strait of Hormuz,” adding that many ships pass through the strait and large quantities of oil flow through it. Regarding negotiations with Tehran, he noted that “there are no negotiations with Iran at present, but that could happen at some point,” adding: “We will speak with Iran when it abandons its nuclear ambitions.” Meanwhile, Trump said he would meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un this year, marking their first encounter since the start of his second term. When asked by journalists whether he intended to meet Kim later in 2026, he replied, “Yes, I will.”
