Russia and Ukraine exchange 206 new prisoners of war through UAE mediation
The United Arab Emirates announced the success of its mediation efforts between Russia and Ukraine in facilitating a new prisoner exchange involving 103 prisoners from the Russian side and an equal number from the Ukrainian side, bringing the total number of prisoners exchanged between the two countries through these mediation efforts to 7,997.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement carried by the official news agency WAM, praised the cooperation of the two friendly countries in ensuring the success of the UAE’s mediation efforts, recognizing the UAE as a trusted international mediator, and acknowledging their appreciation for the UAE’s commitment to supporting all initiatives aimed at resolving the crisis between the two countries.
The ministry added that with the success of this mediation, the total number of UAE-mediated exchanges during the crisis has reached 26, noting that these efforts stem from the distinguished relations that unite the UAE with both the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
The ministry reaffirmed that the UAE will continue its efforts to ensure the success of various initiatives aimed at reaching a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine and mitigating the humanitarian consequences of the crisis, such as refugees and prisoners.
