Release of Egyptian sailors detained on the ship 'Rim Al-Khalij' in Iran and their return to Egypt

Cairo - Khadija Hamouda: Efforts by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Egyptians Abroad, and Egyptians overseas, which spanned the past months, succeeded in securing the release of the two Egyptian sailors detained on the vessel “Rim al-Bahar” at the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas since January last year, ensuring their exit from Iran and facilitating their return to Egypt. The Egyptian interests protection mission in Tehran completed the procedures for their return to the country.

Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Egyptians Abroad, held high-level communications with the Iranian side to secure the release of the Egyptian sailors. He also directed the Egyptian interests protection mission in Iran to make every effort to ensure their well-being and provide all necessary support and assistance. The mission visited them aboard the aforementioned vessel.

The Foreign Minister also instructed the consular sector of the ministry to meet with the sailors’ families and keep them promptly informed of the latest developments.

Ambassador Haddad Al-Jawhari, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Consular Affairs and Egyptians Abroad, received the sailors’ families at the Foreign Ministry headquarters to brief them on the ministry’s efforts, which culminated in their release and the completion of procedures for their return to Egypt.

The head of the Egyptian interests protection mission in Tehran also met with them before their departure from Iran en route to Cairo, to ensure their well-being and provide all necessary support and assistance.
