Electricity Authority: Postponement of bids for the "Smart Water Meters" tender to September 8
The Central Tenders Board announced the postponement of the deadline for submitting bids for the tender to supply, install, operate, and maintain smart water meters for the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy to Tuesday, September 8, instead of the original date, Tuesday, August 18.
The Board is scheduled to open the bids on the new deadline and refer them to the Ministry, as the competent authority, for review and preparation of a technical recommendation regarding the bids. The award decision will be based on the bid that complies with the specifications and technical requirements, after which it will be referred to the Court of Audit for review, audit, and approval, provided there are no comments requiring the Ministry’s response.
Through this tender, the Ministry aims to supply 300,000 smart water meters to replace the existing mechanical meters in most residential sectors. This initiative aligns with the Ministry’s efforts to achieve full digital transformation in service delivery, keeping pace with the latest technologies in the field. The meters to be supplied represent a qualitative leap in water consumption measurement and billing across all residential sectors, featuring modern technological capabilities for precise measurement and calculation compared to old mechanical meters. For instance, the Ministry will be able to automatically receive consumption data with high accuracy via communication networks and read data remotely, eliminating the need for manual readings. Additionally, the system will detect leaks, thereby curbing waste and promoting water conservation, which currently costs the state millions of dinars spent on desalination operations.
