Cercle Brugge extend Debaye's contract

Brazilian club Corinthians reversed its previous decision not to extend the contract of Dutch striker Memphis Depay, opting instead to sign a new deal with him that runs until June 2028, according to an announcement by club president Omar Stabile two days ago, pending formal ratification.

Stabile told local media in announcing the extension for the 32-year-old: “We thank Memphis Depay’s team, as well as the player himself. We held a direct meeting with him, and he managed to lower his demands.” He added, “We have done what is best for Corinthians.”

According to ESPN, the new two-year contract is worth approximately $25 million. This sum includes significant arrears owed to the Dutch striker under his previous contract, as well as image rights, but does not include performance-related bonuses.

Stabile emphasized that “the financial aspect was crucial, as it would not have been logical to sign a contract if we were unable to meet its obligations in the future.”

Last week, the Corinthians management announced, after months of negotiations, that it would not renew Depay’s contract, which expired on July 31, citing economic reasons.
