477.4 million dinars spent by citizens and residents on car fuel during the year

Official data showed that citizens and residents spent approximately 477.4 million dinars on fuel consumption during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. "Premium" fuel accounted for 267.07 million dinars of vehicle fuel spending, while "Private" fuel accounted for 209.7 million dinars. Spending on "Ultra" fuel was the lowest during the year, totaling around 634,000 dinars.

Gasoline consumption in Kuwait continued its upward trajectory during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, in tandem with vehicle movement and rising demand for automotive fuel. Data from the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation revealed that total gasoline sales to the local market reached 5.1705 billion liters, compared to 5.1057 billion liters in the previous fiscal year, representing an annual increase of 64.8 million liters, or a growth rate of 1.269%.

The volumes recorded during the year indicate that the average daily gasoline consumption in Kuwait reached approximately 14.166 million liters, based on dividing annual sales by 365 days, reflecting the large volume of daily demand for vehicle fuel in the local market.

Comparison with previous years shows a clear upward trend in gasoline demand over the long term. With sales reaching 5.1705 billion liters in 2025/2026, gasoline sales had increased by approximately 985.3 million liters compared to 2015/2016, representing a 23.542% rise over ten years, despite the exceptional decline in sales in 2020/2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"Premium" Holds the Largest Share

The composition of gasoline consumption in Kuwait reveals that "Premium" (91 octane) continues to lead the types of fuel used. Its sales reached 3.1420 billion liters during 2025/2026, compared to 3.1322 billion liters in the previous year, an increase of 9.8 million liters and a growth of 0.313%.

Consequently, the average daily consumption of "Premium" gasoline reached approximately 8.608 million liters per day, accounting for about 60.768% of total gasoline sales during the year.

"Private" (95 octane) gasoline came in second place, as its consumption rose to 1.9968 billion liters during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, compared to 1.9415 billion liters in the previous year, an increase of 55.3 million liters and a growth of 2.84%.

This means the local market consumed an average of approximately 5.471 million liters of "Private" gasoline daily, with this type accounting for about 38.619% of total gasoline consumption.

As for "Ultra" (98 octane) gasoline, it continued to represent a very limited share of consumption. Its sales reached 31.7 million liters, compared to 32 million liters in the previous year, a decrease of 300,000 liters, with an average consumption of approximately 86,849 liters per day.

This composition shows that "Premium" and "Private" gasoline together hold the overwhelming majority of the gasoline market in Kuwait, totaling 5.1388 billion liters during the fiscal year, equivalent to 99.38% of total gasoline consumption.

Shift in Consumption Landscape

Notably, historical data reveals a significant shift in the composition of gasoline demand over the past decade. In 2015/2016, "Private" (95 octane) consumption stood at 3.3566 billion liters, compared to only 731.4 million liters for "Premium" (91 octane), before the picture gradually changed in subsequent years, with "Premium" taking the lead in local consumption.

Gasoline Prices

According to the prices currently in effect in Kuwait, the price of a liter of Premium gasoline is 85 fils, while the price of Private is 105 fils per liter. The price of Ultra gasoline is subject to periodic adjustments based on decisions by the committee for reviewing various types of subsidies.

Kerosene Consumption Drops by 52.25%

Kerosene consumption recorded a sharp decline during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, dropping to 51.8 million liters from 108.5 million liters in the previous year.

The decrease amounted to 56.7 million liters, representing a decline of 52.25%, with average daily consumption reaching approximately 141,910 liters.
