Ministry of Health Organizes Mechanism for Issuing X-Ray Reports

The Ministry of Health has adopted a mechanism governing the issuance of diagnostic reports for standard plain X-ray examinations, a move aimed at enhancing the quality of healthcare services, strengthening patient safety, ensuring the optimal use of medical imaging services, and improving the accuracy of assessments and diagnoses.

The mechanism, published by Al-Anbaa newspaper, emphasized the necessity of providing basic medical data when submitting a request for an X-ray examination. The request must include clear and sufficient clinical data regarding the patient’s condition, along with a clear indication of the reason for the examination, as well as the probable diagnosis or the specific clinical question that the examination is intended to answer.

The mechanism underscored the importance of ensuring that the clinical information included in the X-ray request is adequate and clear, as it constitutes a fundamental element enabling the radiologist to evaluate the examination and issue a diagnostic report that aligns with the patient’s clinical condition.

The Ministry mandated that the treating physician must explicitly indicate the need for a diagnostic report from the radiologist within the examination request, and maintain direct communication with the radiologist when necessary, thereby facilitating faster responses and streamlining procedures related to report issuance.

The mechanism stipulated that providing the required medical data and information is a fundamental condition for accepting requests for diagnostic X-ray reports, ensuring that radiologists have access to the necessary information to achieve more accurate assessments. It also requires all medical departments in hospitals and health centers to comply with these provisions, aiming to optimize the use of medical imaging services and guarantee the accuracy of diagnostic evaluations, which in turn reflects positively on the quality of services provided and patient safety.

This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Health’s broader direction to enhance integration between treating physicians and radiologists, regulate the mechanism for requesting and issuing diagnostic reports, and improve the efficiency of utilizing medical imaging services, thereby supporting medical decision-making based on comprehensive and clear clinical information.
