Qatar: Current efforts focus on halting escalation between the US and Iran and resuming negotiations between them

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Dr. Majed Al-Ansari, stated that Doha’s efforts in the current phase are focused on halting escalation and defusing the crisis between the United States and Iran, while ensuring their return to the memorandum of understanding and resuming dialogue and negotiations.

Al-Ansari added during a press conference held in Doha: “What we want in Qatar is an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and to implement a ceasefire simultaneously.”

On another note, Al-Ansari clarified that “the Iranian aircraft that were shot down came to attack us, and we responded in accordance with the rules of engagement,” adding, “We have extended an open invitation to Iran to review the investigation into those aircraft.”

He stressed that “Iran should not drag Qatar into its internal disputes.”
