Pakistan: We will continue to work with Saudi Arabia and Turkey to play a constructive role in ensuring the defense of the region
Washington, D.C. – Agencies: Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif affirmed that his country will continue, in cooperation with Saudi Arabia and Turkey, to play a constructive role in ensuring the defense of the entire region. Sharif stated in a post on his official X account yesterday: “In cooperation with the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Turkish Republic, Pakistan will continue to play a constructive role in ensuring the defense of our country as well as the entire region.” He added, “We deeply appreciate the kind words of support expressed by President Donald Trump regarding the signing of the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense.” He further noted, “I would also like to once again commend President Trump for his courageous and decisive leadership, which helped avert a nuclear catastrophe in South Asia and saved millions of lives.” Sharif stressed that “permanent peace is the most crucial prerequisite for a bright and prosperous future for our peoples.” The U.S. president had previously expressed his happiness over the signing by Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan of the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense, describing it as a “major and highly significant” step to enhance security in the Middle East. Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social: “Very happy to see the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan have finally signed the (Mecca) Joint Defense Agreement.” He regarded it as reflecting “a convergence among Middle Eastern countries to defend themselves more effectively,” emphasizing that this step is “major, bold, and highly significant.”
