IAEA Praises Safety and Security Levels at El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant
Cairo – A delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) visited the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project, as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise between Egypt’s Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) and the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (NRRA), and the IAEA.
The IAEA delegation, accompanied during the inspection visit by Dr. Mahmoud Gad, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the NRRA, expressed admiration for the significant achievements made in the project’s implementation activities and operations. They commended the role played by the NPPA in managing the project’s execution, ensuring the highest levels of nuclear safety and security in accordance with IAEA standards and regulatory requirements, following international best practices.
The visit included a detailed presentation on the importance of nuclear energy for Egypt’s future and its pivotal role in securing reliable and sustainable energy sources to meet growing electricity demands. It also covered the various stages of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project, the latest technologies employed, as well as the technical and environmental aspects of the project. Emphasis was placed on the Authority’s commitment to the highest nuclear safety and security standards, ensuring that the project is implemented in line with global benchmarks.
The visit also featured a field tour inside the construction site for the four nuclear units, as well as the specialized port of El Dabaa, where the delegation closely examined the progress of works and the technologies used in the project’s implementation.
