Sheikh al-Aql (Chief Jurist) of the Druze Monotheist community, Dr. Sami Abi al-Muna, received a delegation of Arab tribes from the northern, central, and western Bekaa regions and from Syria at his residence in Shaniye (Aley District, Mount Lebanon), where they were invited to participate in the upcoming national unifying conference being prepared in the Baalbek-Hermel area.
On this occasion, Sheikh Abi al-Muna said: “The nation can only be saved by the unity of its people and by exercising foresight regarding the consequences of events in the face of blatant aggression that disregards international resolutions and agreements.”
He added: “Professor Walid Jumblatt was right in his assessment of the Framework Agreement and its negative implications. He was quick to warn against Israel’s ambitions and its use of negotiations as a cover to continue its violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty without any deterrent from any agreement or law. Therefore, it is essential to carefully reconsider how to respond to this aggression in order to achieve stability, if not peace, because peace is impossible with an aggressive, usurping enemy that dreams of further expansion and dominance. Stability, on the other hand, can only be achieved through Israel’s complete withdrawal, the return of residents to their towns, and the state assuming its responsibility to monopolize weapons and reassure people of their security and safety.”
He continued: “As for the noble Arab tribes, we are part of them, and they are part of us. We share with them common religious, national, and ethical values. We welcome any effort to reunite the family and heal divisions, wherever they may exist, whether in Lebanon or in Syria.”
