Damascus Airport Receives First Flights from Moscow After Years of Suspension

Damascus International Airport received, yesterday, the first Syrian Air flight from Moscow, marking the resumption of flights between the two countries after a hiatus lasting several years. Omar Al-Husri, head of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport, told the official Sana news agency that “Syrian Air is reclaiming its presence on the map of regional and international aviation,” noting the Authority’s efforts to reconnect Syria with the world, open more direct destinations, and provide broader travel options for citizens, as part of a comprehensive plan to expand the operational network and strengthen air connectivity. Al-Husri indicated that the coming period will see Syrian Air return to a number of regional and international destinations, including new European routes to be announced sequentially. The day before yesterday, the first direct flight from Berlin’s airport in Germany arrived at Damascus International Airport, after a gap of approximately 14 years, signaling the resumption of air links between Damascus and Berlin.
