Damascus Airport Welcomes First Syrian Airlines Flight from Moscow After Years of Suspension

Damascus International Airport received the first Syrian Air flight from Moscow, marking the resumption of flights between the two countries after a hiatus of several years.

Commenting on the development, Omar Al-Husri, head of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport, told the official Sana news agency that “Syrian Air is reclaiming its presence on the map of regional and international aviation.” He noted that the Authority is working to reconnect Syria with the world, open more direct destinations, and provide broader travel options for citizens, as part of a comprehensive plan to expand the operational network and enhance air connectivity.

Al-Husri indicated that the coming period will see Syrian Air return to several regional and international destinations, including new European routes to be announced sequentially.

Earlier, on Saturday, the first direct flight from Berlin’s airport in Germany arrived at Damascus International Airport, ending a gap of nearly 14 years and signaling the resumption of air links between Damascus and Berlin.
