Syrian-Turkish talks to develop ports and attract joint investments

The head of the General Authority for Ports and Customs in Syria, Qutaiba Badawi, held talks with several officials in Turkey’s Mersin province on ways to benefit from Turkey’s successful experiences in developing free zones, enhancing their role in attracting investments, and supporting the flow of trade.

The Authority stated in a press release published on its Telegram channel and reported by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), that a delegation from the Authority carried out an official visit to Mersin, which included a tour of the province’s port. During the visit, the delegation examined operational and management mechanisms, cargo and container handling systems, logistics services, and the technologies used to regulate ship and cargo movements, alongside the infrastructure and facilities that contribute to improving operational efficiency and accelerating maritime trade.

The visit also included the Mersin Free Zone, where the delegation observed working mechanisms and services provided to investors, as well as the organization of commercial, industrial, and logistical activities, and discussed ways to leverage the Turkish experience in developing free zones and attracting investments.

During the visit to Mersin’s marina area, the delegation reviewed its management model and the maritime and tourism services offered there, as well as its role in stimulating economic and investment activity in the province.

The delegation also met with several Syrian and Turkish traders and businessmen, discussing the current state of bilateral trade, available investment opportunities, and ways to facilitate the movement of goods and strengthen partnerships between the business communities of the two countries.
