Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas advanced to the second round of the Cincinnati Open tennis tournament (1,000 points) after defeating Frenchman Valentin Royer in straight sets in a match that lasted 1 hour and 58 minutes.
Croatian Marin Cilic was eliminated from the tournament in the first round after losing to Spain’s Daniel Munoz Aguilar. The Spanish player, ranked 40th in the world, took 100 minutes to defeat Cilic, who is ranked 85th.
In another first-round match, Frenchman Gael Monfils was knocked out by Australia’s Rinky Hijikata.
