Spanish World Cup winner Ferran Torres joined French European champions Paris Saint-Germain yesterday from Barcelona on a five-year contract running until 2031. The 26-year-old striker, who scored the winning goal for Spain in the final against Argentina at the North American World Cup, and who can play in multiple attacking positions, joins the two-time reigning European champions in a deal valued at around 50 million euros (approximately $58 million), according to Spanish and French media.
In a statement, the French champions said: “Paris Saint-Germain is pleased to announce the signing of Ferran Torres. The Spanish world champion striker has signed a contract with the club until 2031 and will wear the number 9 shirt.”
Torres had just one year remaining on his contract with Barcelona, where he has played since 2022. He joined Barcelona from Manchester City for more than 55 million euros ($63 million). German coach Hansi Flick used him as a backup striker behind Polish forward Robert Lewandowski since taking charge of the team in the summer of 2024.
Torres has often played a decisive role when coming on as a substitute. The Valencia academy graduate scored 40 goals in 94 matches across all competitions over the past two seasons.
PSG have previously strengthened their squad by signing international full-back Luka Djene and attacking midfielder Magniez Akliouche.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are expected to replace Torres following the departures of Lewandowski and Marcus Rashford. The Catalan club has already signed English forward Anthony Gordon from Newcastle and German winger Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund.
