"Flight Attendants' Strike Forces British EasyJet to Cancel 100 Flights from French Airports"

Paris (AFP): British low-cost airline easyJet announced the cancellation of around 100 flights from French airports due to a strike by cabin crew protesting against frequent changes to their work schedules.

Unions said that around half of the 900 cabin crew based in France are participating in the strike, affecting roughly half of the flights departing from Paris airports, as well as those from Nice, Bordeaux, and Lyon.

The strike coincides with a major national holiday, during which airports are experiencing heavy congestion.

The British company ranks second after Air France in terms of passenger numbers in France.

The company confirmed it would assist passengers in finding alternative routes, while William Bordon of the National Union of Air Cabin Crew stated that the strikers are demanding “stability” in their work schedules.

He explained that changes to the working hours and destinations for some cabin crew members can occur 50 or 60 times in a single week.

Speaking to AFP, Bordon added, “These changes make it extremely difficult to organize personal life or childcare, as most changes come at the last minute, just 24 to 48 hours in advance.”

Bordon said that when easyJet faces staff shortages at one airport, employees are called in from another operating base, which in turn forces that base to cover its own staffing gaps.
