2.5 billion dinars spent on credit cards in Kuwait over six months

Data obtained by Al-Anbaa revealed that the value of credit card transactions issued by local banks in Kuwait reached 2.5 billion dinars during the first half of 2026, comprising 122.49 million transactions, with an average monthly spending of approximately 417 million dinars.

According to data from the Central Bank of Kuwait regarding electronic payment transactions within and outside Kuwait, point-of-sale (POS) terminals accounted for 53.2% of total usage, valued at 1.33 billion dinars across 80.22 million transactions, with an average of 16.59 dinars per transaction. Online website payments ranked second, totaling 875.5 million dinars, representing 34.98% of the total, through 40.48 million transactions, with an average of 21.62 dinars per transaction.

Together, POS terminals and online websites accounted for 88.19% of total credit card usage, equivalent to 2.2 billion dinars. Meanwhile, cash withdrawals via ATMs amounted to 295.4 million dinars, representing 11.8% of the total, through 1.78 million transactions, with an average of 165.73 dinars per transaction.

On a monthly basis, January recorded the highest spending during the first half at 477.4 million dinars, while March recorded the lowest at 356.9 million dinars. Spending stood at 400.8 million dinars in February, and 380.5 million dinars in April, before rising to 450 million dinars in May, and then to 436.8 million dinars in June, reflecting the continued widespread use of cards for daily purchases and online shopping.
