The Spanish league kicks off tomorrow evening, Saturday, with two matches: the first sees Deportivo Alavés face Getafe, while the second pits Sevilla against Rayo Vallecano. Barcelona, the reigning La Liga champions, and their traditional rivals Real Madrid, the leaders of the Spanish capital who have signed Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho for a second stint, will be absent from the opening round to give their players additional rest after their participation in the 2026 World Cup. Real Madrid are scheduled to play Espanyol the following Saturday, followed by Barcelona’s match against Elche the subsequent Sunday.

Real Madrid secured a friendly victory over Deportivo La Coruna 1-0 in their match two days ago at the Abanca-Riazor stadium. Meanwhile, Barcelona, under the guidance of German coach Hansi Flick, continue their preparations after holding a training camp in England and participating in a friendly tournament in Italy. They are also gearing up for a friendly match against Egyptian club Al Ahly on the evening of the 19th.
