The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development signed a grant agreement with the World Food Programme (WFP), under which the Fund provides a grant of two million US dollars to help finance the construction and improvement of food storage facilities in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum. The agreement was signed on behalf of the WFP by Omar Walid Al-Eissa, the Programme’s Country Director in Kuwait, and on behalf of the Kuwait Fund by Rashid Al-Badr, Acting General Manager.

The project aims to provide and enhance the necessary storage capacity for dry food aid in areas suffering from a severe shortage of storage facilities, through the rehabilitation of existing structures and the construction of new ones, with a total storage capacity of approximately 59,000 metric tons. These facilities are expected to contribute to securing food aid, improving storage operations, and facilitating distribution, thereby supporting the WFP’s efforts to reach around 7.5 million beneficiaries.

The project comprises several key components, including the construction of permanent storage facilities, such as steel warehouses and cold storage facilities, along with the development of supporting infrastructure for the facilities, offices, and security structures. Additionally, the project involves the installation, placement, and securing of 15 mobile storage units on concrete foundations.
