Conference of Heads of Border Security Agencies: Developing Integrated and Secure Electronic Linkage and Communication Systems Between Ports of Entry
The 18th Arab Conference of Heads of Border, Airport, and Port Security Agencies called for enhancing the use of modern technologies and artificial intelligence to support border connectivity and communication, data analysis, and early detection of cross-border criminal risks and threats.
The General Secretariat of the Arab Ministers of Interior Council stated in a press release that this came at the conclusion of the conference, which was held in Tunisia over two days and discussed several important topics, including the systems and tools used by member states in the field of connectivity and communication between border checkpoints within a country.
It added that member states called for the development of integrated and secure electronic connectivity and communication systems between land, sea, and air border checkpoints, ensuring rapid information exchange and coordination among competent authorities. This also includes strengthening the use of fiber-optic networks and secure wireless communications, and linking security surveillance cameras to command and control centers to support immediate monitoring and rapid response to security incidents.
At its conclusion, the conference emphasized the necessity of exchanging expertise and experiences among border, airport, and port security agencies within the ministries of interior in Arab countries, in the field of border connectivity and communication technologies. It stressed the need to develop compatible and interoperable systems, while providing backup systems to ensure the continuity of communications and security services.
The conference recommended that member states appoint a liaison officer in their central border security operations rooms to communicate with their counterparts in other Arab countries. In light of this, the General Secretariat will prepare a guide on the matter and disseminate it to all Arab countries.
It also urged member states that do not have central border security operations rooms to establish such rooms, given their constructive role in accelerating information exchange between border checkpoints.
Furthermore, the conference recommended that the General Secretariat form a committee of representatives from member states to study the draft mechanism for communication between national border security operations rooms in Arab countries, assess its feasibility, and present the issue to the next conference.
