Our Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Azzam Al-Asfour, emphasized the importance of enhancing academic cooperation between Kuwaiti and Korean universities in the fields of artificial intelligence and advanced technology, contributing to the preparation of qualified national cadres to keep pace with future demands and strengthening the partnership between the two friendly countries in this sector.

Al-Asfour’s remarks came in a statement received by KUNA from our embassy in Seoul, on the occasion of its reception of a delegation comprising 20 students participating in the STEAM initiative under the auspices of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences. The students are visiting Korea to take part in a specialized academic course on artificial intelligence technology at Korea University.

During the meeting, Al-Asfour outlined the progress achieved by South Korea in advanced technology and artificial intelligence, stressing the importance of leveraging the Korean experience and transferring its expertise to the State of Kuwait, particularly given the advancements made by Korean universities in AI-related disciplines.

He also expressed his hope for an increase in the number of Kuwaiti students enrolling in Korean universities in fields such as artificial intelligence, electronic engineering, and cybersecurity, reaffirming the embassy’s readiness to provide necessary support to the Kuwaiti delegation throughout their stay in Korea.

The student delegation is participating in a one-week academic course at Korea University focused on artificial intelligence technology, alongside visits to several Korean companies and institutions specializing in this sector.

The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences launched the STEAM initiative in 2025, as part of its strategy for the period 2025–2029, with the aim of developing curricula in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, enhancing the skills of Kuwaiti students and teachers, and preparing national cadres and a generation equipped with the competencies needed to meet future and labor market demands, in line with Kuwait’s direction toward supporting innovation and a knowledge-based economy.
