Water crisis deepens in England: Drought affects 71.3% of the country's area

England is facing mounting pressure on its water resources as the area affected by drought expands, coinciding with ongoing dry weather and forecasts of a new wave of high temperatures.

The British government announced that approximately 71.3% of England’s area is experiencing drought, according to AFP, amid deteriorating conditions following a dry start to August, while various regions across the country face varying levels of pressure on water supplies.

These developments come after July recorded exceptional drought levels, heightening concerns about water resources as rainfall remains scarce.

The agency quoted the British Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs as confirming that drought currently affects about three-quarters of England, with forecasts pointing to a fifth heatwave and limited rainfall in the coming period.
