Morocco: Relying on Supplication and Seeking Forgiveness During the Eclipse

Morocco is anticipating a notable astronomical phenomenon on Wednesday: a solar eclipse that will be visible to varying degrees across several regions of the kingdom. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs announced that eclipse prayers would not be held in mosques due to the timing of the event.

The ministry clarified that the eclipse would occur after the afternoon prayer and continue until shortly before sunset, a period that, according to its statement, falls within times when performing voluntary prayers is discouraged. It advised limiting religious observance during this time to supplication and seeking forgiveness.

The phenomenon is expected to begin in Morocco around 6:44 p.m. local time, reaching its peak at approximately 7:40 p.m., with variations in timing and the percentage of the sun’s obscuration depending on geographic location.

In some regions of the kingdom, the obscuration could exceed 92%, according to information provided in the report.

Coinciding with the event, experts have emphasized the importance of not looking directly at the sun and using specialized eclipse-viewing glasses, as traditional sunglasses do not provide adequate eye protection.
