UAE: Foiled advanced cyberattacks targeting vital sectors in the country
The UAE government’s Cybersecurity Council announced that the national cybersecurity systems successfully detected and thwarted advanced, organized cyberattacks targeting the aviation, energy, and education sectors in the country. It confirmed that these threats were addressed proactively and immediately, containing the intrusion attempts before the attackers could achieve their objectives or disrupt the continuity of critical systems and services.
In a statement reported by the official news agency (WAM), the Council explained that the attacks involved multiple attack vectors and methods, including attempts to breach systems and digital infrastructure, targeting operational accounts and data, as well as targeted phishing campaigns and efforts to exploit users as entry points into the targeted environments.
It added that national cybersecurity teams were able to detect these activities, repel them, trace their pathways, and identify associated indicators of compromise, taking necessary technical measures to neutralize the threats and prevent their spread.
The UAE Cybersecurity Council emphasized that the national monitoring and response system operated at the highest levels of readiness. Attacks were handled the moment they were detected, with containment and protection measures applied simultaneously, thereby preventing attackers from reaching their goals and ensuring the security and continuity of the targeted sectors.
It noted that the thwarting of these attacks reflects the advanced level of the UAE’s national cyber capabilities, which possess sophisticated capacities in early detection, proactive threat analysis, linking attack indicators, and rapid incident response within an integrated, round-the-clock system designed to protect the country’s digital space.
The Council stressed that in the face of a rapidly evolving cyber landscape, the UAE’s systems remain in a state of constant vigilance, monitoring threats, tracing their paths, and acting before they reach their targets, in order to safeguard the nation’s achievements and ensure the sustainability of its critical services and sectors.
